That’s definitely a life I could get used to. Waking up between 7 and 8 without setting an alarm (I haven’t done that in the last four years while working so why now!?). Going for a run, putting in a workout or trying to surf (usually not possible due to too heavy waves or almost no waves at all) and then taking care of your projects in the morning or afternoon and going to the beach the other time of day. All in all a life I could live for a while. Especially since my savings weren’t really touched within the last month. Ok, at this point it might be fair to say that I don’t need much to be happy. The sun and the beach are free and since I am rather staying at one place than not remembering the names of the places while rushing from one place to another I probably haven’t got the most expensive lifestyle.
So it is no surprise that I only spend 680 AUS-Dollar over the last month, 160 for new shoes I needed after I used my last ones for working, 310 for 10 days staying in a hostel and the rest for food and getting around in public transportation. Since I had still some income from a project I’ve finished in October my expenses were balanced with that in January. While lots of people think that it is expensive to travel, the opposite is the case or it might even costs you less than you would spend for rent and everything back home. When you are travelling you have at least the chance to work for 4 to 5 hours a day for board and lodge, 2 to 2 1/2 for board only or you look for a full-time or day job where you probably put in 12 to 13 hours per day.
So something for everyone and based on the choice how much time for yourself you would like to have. For now I still choose spare time over making lots of money cause that is giving me enough time to enjoy myself in the sun and having time to focus on my projects. Cause at the end of our days we only regret the chances we didn’t take and the chance of not living my life to the fullest and to my conditions will definitely not be on that list.
For now I am staying in Newcastle (even if going at this “pace” will take me ages to see most of the amazing places in Australia) and moved in a spare room of a friend I met in Guatemala last year while building a house for a family down there.
